Renormalization of a gapless Hartree-Fock approximation to a theory with spontaneously broken O(N)-symmetry

چکیده
The renormalization of a gapless Φ-derivable Hartree–Fock approximation to the O(N)-symmetric λφ theory is considered in the spontaneously broken phase. This kind of approach was proposed by three of us in a previous paper [1] in order to preserve all the desirable features of Φ-derivable DysonSchwinger resummation schemes (i.e., validity of conservation laws and thermodynamic consistency) while simultaneously restoring the Nambu–Goldstone theorem in the broken phase. It is shown that unlike for the conventional Hartree–Fock approximation this approach allows for a scale-independent renormalization in the vacuum. However, the scale dependence still persists at finite temperatures. Various branches of the solution are studied. The occurrence of a limiting temperature inherent in the renormalized Hartree–Fock approximation at fixed renormalization scale μ is discussed.

Improved Hartree–Fock resummations and spontaneous symmetry breaking
The standard Hartree–Fock approximation of the O(N)−invariant φ model suffers from serious renormalization problems. In addition, when the symmetry is spontaneously broken, another shortcoming appears in relation to the Goldstone bosons: they fail to be massless in the intermediate states. In this work, within the framework of out–of– equilibrium Quantum Field Theory, we propose a class of syst...

A definitive negative answer to the question posed in the title of this paper is given within the framework of the Hartree-Fock theory, showing in the process that earlier work on the subject which incorrectly concluded that such a charge transfer instability exists at low electron density and small layer separation is a feature of the restricted Hartree-Fock approximation. It is also argued, b...
متن کاملNon-perturbative renormalization group equations and approximate discrete γ5-symmetry in quantum hadrodynamics
The quantum hadrodynamics are studied by using non-perturbative renormalization group equations. Approximate discrete γ5-symmetry is studied. It is shown that the contributions of one-loop diagrams are important for effective potential. A relation between the local-potential approximation and the usual Hartree approximation is discussed. The local-potential approximation includes contribution o...
متن کاملThe renormalized and Renormalization–Group invariant Hartree–Fock approximation
We study the renormalization problem for the Hartree–Fock approximation of the O(N)−invariant φ model in the symmetric phase and show how to systematically improve the corresponding diagrammatic resummation to achieve the correct renormalization properties of the effective field equations, including Renormalization–Group invariance with the one–loop beta function. These new Hartree–Fock dynamic...
متن کاملProper and improper zero energy modes in Hartree-Fock theory and their relevance for symmetry breaking and restoration.
We study the spectra of the molecular orbital Hessian (stability matrix) and random-phase approximation (RPA) Hamiltonian of broken-symmetry Hartree-Fock solutions, focusing on zero eigenvalue modes. After all negative eigenvalues are removed from the Hessian by following their eigenvectors downhill, one is left with only positive and zero eigenvalues. Zero modes correspond to orbital rotations...
